Running with your spouse can further improve your relationship; most of us have experienced how running with someone produces deep conversations and fosters meaningful bonds.
Here’s a celebrity couple, Sunil and Sangeeta Shetty who tell us why it is cool to run as a couple.
- You get to spend more time with your partner
In today's fast paced life, we don't get to spend much time with our partners. Both partners are busy with their personal and professional commitments. But if both are runners, that's an advantage. Today we spend 8-10 hrs each week on workouts and that's quality time spent with each other.
- You celebrate successes together
More often, we recreational/amateur runners look for small successes/achievements in our workouts and always want to celebrate those. As a couple, you witness each other’s success and celebrate these victories together which helps strengthen the bond.
- It helps in improving the quality of your workouts
Some of the workouts we do are extremely challenging and require a whole lot of endurance and willpower. Your spouse's presence and encouraging words play an important role while getting through such strenuous workouts.
- There is no boredom at home
All runners like to talk and share about their workouts, running challenges, updates on runners’ records etc. As a couple, when you have common interests and passions, you never run out of topics and there is no boredom. In fact we also like to analyse our runs and results and jointly plan out strategies.
- It has a positive rub off on other members of the family
When both partners take to running and take fitness and make healthy lifestyle a priority, other family members, especially kids, also learn to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
Sangeeta and Sunil Shetty, renowned ultra-marathoners of Mumbai have been actively running for the past 15 years. They hold two records in the Guinness Book of World Records in their name for being the first married couple to take part in and complete a 48-hour ultra marathon together.
